Below is the original report that announced the inauguration of the Northern Saluki Club in
The Saluki, (Vol: 10, No: | Spring 1978)
NORTH REPORT
A meeting took place on Sunday 8th January at Runcorn to elect officers and committee members
and to draw up rules and regulations for the proposed “Northern Saluki Club”.
The meeting was well attended by fifty seven people accompanied by fifty three hounds, which was a
very good turnout as the day dawned with thick fog. A special word of praise must go to those who
journeyed from as far as London in the south to Newcastle in the north.
The Meeting started at 11.30 a.m. with Mrs Beryl Payne, who was elected chairman, presiding after
Mr Barry Cotterill had got things underway. Officers and committee were elected and, after much
deliberation, the rules were drawn up. The meeting ended at 2.45 p.m. and was followed by an excellent
lunch provided by Beryl Payne.
After lunch a successful match was held with Mrs Pat Williams, from Poynton judging. Best puppy
in match was won by Janet Bullock’s Starflight Ilex, with Bob and Diane Thomson’s Ilsham Theseus of
Kymja winning the adult section.
Following the completion of the match the trophies were presented to the hounds winning the most
points throughout the year 1977. Mr and Mrs Redfern’s Jauhara Jamil took the top spot and also the
trophy for top puppy and best bitch. Alipid Azreal was top grizzle, Maureen Flanagan’s Aliped Aquinas
was top black and tan, and my and my wife’s Ilsham Janessa was top parti-colour.
A buffet and sherry were provided, and everyone left for home in high spirits after an enjoyable day.
David Lever.
Since 1978 the Northern Saluki Club has gone from strength to strength and holds a Championship show,
in April and an Open Show usually in September. The aims of the Club are:
* To promote the well being of the Saluki.
* To promote shows and social events in the North.
¢ To encourage other activities for the breed in the North.
’Z];ESM would like to offer their congratulations to the Northern Saluki Club on their 30th Anniversary.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab
Emirates, October 27, 2007 –
The Arabian Saluki Center, Abu
Dhabi, today announced the two
“Best in Show” Winners of the 2.
Arabian Saluki Beauty Contest that
was held from October 24 to 27,
2007 as part of the 2007 Abu
Dhabi Hunting & Equestrian
Exhibition. The four competition
days attracted some thousand
visitors and Saluki lovers from the
UAE and other GCC countries and
saw a total of 132 Arabian Salukis
competing for the “Best in Show”
prize.
All participating Salukis had been
registered by the Arabian Saluki
Center prior to the show. Only Arated
Salukis were eligible to
attend, which made the judgement
even more difficult than last year.
Gilberto Grandi, President of the
ltalian Sight Hound Club,
International FCl Judge and a
specialist in Greyhounds and other
Sight Hounds since 1977, rated 63
smooth and 69 feathered Salukis
of the highest quality of breed on
the first three show days. The
Fourth and Final Round of the
Saluki Beauty Contest displayed the
créme de la créme of Arabian
Salukis in the Gulf Region — all of
them of the highest quality both in
overall structure, appearance and
movement. The two “Best in Show”
winners were selected by Hamad
Al Ghanem, Director, Breeder and
Registrar General of the Arabian
Saluki Center — “Reef” (black 4-
eye) in the feathered category and
“Abla” (red) in the smooth
category.
