Sunday 4th October 2026.
We have received notification of the passing of Brendan Austin. Many of you will not know Brendon as he was very active in the SGHC around the time of the Club’s 90th Anniversary. In fact, the amazing celebrations of the 90th were down to the efforts of Brendan putting together a whole year of different events aptly named the ‘The Saluki Classic 2013’. After stepping back from the Club, he became involved with Saluki Welfare which included writing their newsletter “Snippets’. Our thoughts at this time go to his family, and his many friends. We will put a more detailed obituary in the Crufts edition of ‘The Saluki” I have heard from Caroline Pickering, she and Ray are now grandparents to Stanley, Who was born at the end of June? She wrote that their son Jason and his wife Jemma, when they found out they were expecting, booked a swansong no kids holiday to Dubai and the Maldives. They arrived in Dubai on the Saturday morning, beautiful smiling happy photos by lunch time the same day we received pics of drones being shot down from the sky. They got stuck in Dubai couldn’t leave the hotel said it was terrifying, couldn’t get a flight home. 5 days later managed to get a flight to the Maldives. Then got stuck there for two weeks as they still couldn’t get a flight home. Caroline stated how thrilled they were when they landed at Heathrow.
